50th Issue of Teaching Citizenship

We are excited to announce the arrival of the 50th edition of the Teaching Citizenship journal in secondary schools!

FREE Election CPD for teachers

ACT is delighted to be working with 24 organisations as part of the educateGE project to provide support to schools in teaching about the Election, voting and democracy.

Four new lessons have been developed by ACT teachers on the election, voting, manifestos and running a parallel election in schools.

Exciting ACT Member opportunity - US-UK teacher exchange programme 2019

Apply by Tuesday 4 December 2018

We are delighted that the U.S. Embassy London has announced a 10-day exchange programme to the United States for members of ACT. Successful applicants will visit cities in the United States and explore media literacy teaching approaches with their counterparts. Participants will also have the chance to meet with American journalists, NGOs and others working in this area.




Become a Citizenship Specialist Leader of Education

Just before the summer break, the DFE announced in their response to the House of Lords enquiry into Citizenship that teachers can now apply to become a Citizenship Specialist Leader of Education.

If you are a middle or senior leader in a school with Citizenship teaching expertise you can apply today.

The Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT) is a charitable membership association that was established in 2001. We are looking to recruit new members to our Board of Trustees to expand and enhance the expertise available to the Charity.

In particular we are especially keen to hear from those whose main area of experience and expertise is in the areas of business development, marketing and finance.

Young People, citizenship and democracy education take centre stage at National Conference

Citizenship and Democracy education take centre stage at a major national teaching Conference this weekend (7 July) hosted at City Hall in London and organised by the Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT). 

Students from Hamilton Academy in Leicestershire will open ACT’s national conference with a film they have made about why being taught Citizenship means so much to them, and join calls on the Secretary of State to take action to improve the status of the subject. 

Landmark House of Lords Committee report calls for statutory Citizenship and a trained teacher in every school

In a landmark report published today (18 April) The Ties that Bind: Citizenship and Civic Engagement in the 21st Century, the House of Lords Citizenship and Civic Engagement Committee has called on Government to take urgent action to reprioritise the subject of Citizenship and ensure every school has a trained Citizenship teacher.
