Applications open for ACT Board of Trustees

The Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT) is a charitable membership association that was established in 2001. ACT is looking to recruit new Trustees to its Board to expand and enhance the expertise available to the Charity and would especially like to hear from those who have knowledge and experience in teacher training, finance, business development, charity law and governance.

ACT Board appoint first CEO at Association for Citizenship Teaching

The ACT Board of Trustees have today announced some important staffing changes to help move the Charity and its Citizenship education work forward.

The Chair of Trustees, Scott Harrison, said,

"I am delighted to be able to announce some important changes to staffing at the Association for Citizenship Teaching.

The Board of Trustees has appointed Liz Moorse as ACT’s first Chief Executive."

Lord Blunkett, ACT’s President, echoed the views of Trustees.

The Deliberative Classroom: new DFE funded resources and guidance on topical debates

The Deliberative Classroom is a new project, funded by the Department for Education (DfE), to support teachers to lead knowledge-based debates with students on topical issues relating to fundamental British values, citizenship and equality.

New House of Lords Committee on Citizenship and Civic engagement

Last week it was announced that a new Lords Committee on Citizenship and Civic Engagment has been established for the 2017-18 parliamentary session.

Supporting pupils and teachers after the Manchester attack

Following the devastating terrorist attack in Manchester, many schools will be dealing with questions and concerns from pupils about what happened and why. It is important for teachers to provide curriculum space to talk about questions and concerns, and challenge misconceptions but not be rushed into a reactive response, particularly while information is still emerging.

A level Citizenship Studies should not be allowed to disappear

The A level results published today (13 August 2015) show numbers of students achieving the A level in Citizenship have held up well, yet the qualification is being allowed to disappear after 2018.
