Case Study: Davison High School
The latest case study to be published by ACT’s research team explores how Davison Church of England High School has successfully embedded meaningful active citizenship opportunities for students within the school’s curriculum, culture and community.
Davison Church of England High School is a secondary school for girls aged 11 to 16 in Worthing, West Sussex, England. The school offers a broad curriculum complimented by a range of opportunities to participate within the school, local community and wider community. The school has recently been awarded outstanding by Ofsted. The Ofsted report highlights the extensive range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities covering arts, sports, interest groups and social activities: “Community service is at the heart of school life. There are numerous opportunities for pupils to demonstrate active citizenship as school prefects and school councillors as well as through charitable work,” (Ofsted 2024).
This case study highlights two areas of interest; how the school has carefully planned a programme of active citizenship education incorporating Citizenship education’s 3Cs (curriculum, culture and community) and student engagement with GCSE Citizenship Studies.
