Developing your knowledge for teaching Citizenship - Part 3

Join us for the final session of our three-part series focusing on developing your knowledge as a Citizenship teacher. In this session we will learn more about how we can ensure there is knowledge embedded in our big picture planning.

When planning Citizenship, it is important to consider more than just the knowledge you will teach in a single lesson. Medium-term planning – developing your schemes of work – should include a well-structured pathway of conceptual and subject-specific knowledge that you want students to achieve by the end of the unit.

In this session, Dr Lee Jerome, Zoe Baker and Kirsty White will explore the importance of ‘big picture planning’. Based on recent research carried out with UCL, Lee Jerome will discuss the clear links between the five types of knowledge Citizenship teachers need to develop to ensure that their curriculum is both powerful and meaningful for today’s world. Zoe Baker and Kirsty White will then provide practical examples of using the different types of knowledge in schools to develop their own curriculum and resources for students.
