Political impartiality for school leaders during a general election
School teachers have a responsibility for a wide range of contrasting elements in their schools. A student's development in fundamental British Values and political literacy is just one. In addition you have to balance this your statutory duty to remain impartial under the Education Act In the run up to a general election this balance can become more difficult to achieve as students show more interest in the events in the news, are exposed to political campaigning in the community and online and ask questions of the people they trust, you their teachers.
Presenters, Dr Lee Jerome and Zoe Baker have worked within the area of political impartiality training for some time, including writing guidance for government. During this webinar, they will work with leaders of schools to explore good practice, provide model policies and advise on how to navigate this important time for schools and pupils to ensure learning opportunities are fully utilised and that schools stay working within legislation.
