Curriculum and Assessment Review: Call for Citizenship views
The government has announced an independent review of Curriculum and Assessment and we want to gather your views to help shape the future
Curriculum and Assessment Review: Call for Citizenship views
Following the announcement of an independent review of Curriculum and Assessment in England, ACT wants to hear the views of the people who will be responsible for implementing any changes that come from it. If you have a connection to the Citizenship National Curriculum and GCSE content and assessment, then please spend some valuable minutes feeding into this consultation.
Who can participate?
We invite everyone who teaches Citizenship whether that’s as a specialist, non-specialist or teacher trainer working in secondary schools, post-16 settings or in higher education. We want practitioners with a vested interest in Citizenship to share their views with us.
Information from this survey, alongside other consultations with ACT members and the wider Citizenship community, will help shape the ACT’s response to the review. This is the time to make your voice heard on a national level. Don’t miss this opportunity to shape change.
Submit your responses by end of Sunday 27 October 2024.

Student Voice: Curriculum and Assessment Review
To ensure the views of students are also part of this important conversation, ACT has developed a set of resources to help teachers facilitate discussions with their classes. These materials are designed to gather student recommendations for the future of Citizenship education, offering young people the chance to share their insights on how the curriculum can reflect their needs and priorities. Use these resources to guide conversations in your classroom, and help students make their voices heard in the Curriculum and Assessment Review. Download Student Voice materials.
Curriculum and Assessment reviews do not occur frequently. Any proposed changes can have a profound impact on the lives of teachers and educational outcomes of young people nationwide. We urge you to grasp this moment and support your subject community by responding to this call. Meanwhile, we will continue to urge policymakers to make space for Citizenship.

What is ACT?
The Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT) is the subject association for Citizenship – an organisation for teachers, led by teachers. Our vision is for all young people to be equipped to become active, informed citizens who can participate in democratic life. To achieve this, we provide membership services and education programmes for teachers and others involved in Citizenship education both across the UK and overseas. As well as offering resources, training, conferences and expert advice, we advocate for the subject, support subject research, and offer strategic policy advice.
ACT is committed to research-informed best practice
ACT is working with Middlesex University on an innovative national research project to evaluate the impact of Citizenship education in schools. This will allow us to identify and promote best practice going forward, and it will help participating schools to evaluate their own Citizenship and Personal Development provision.
