Join us for a dynamic expert-led session on effective racial equity in the curriculum. We invite teachers and leaders to this event where our experts will discuss the approaches teachers and schools can use to establish racial equity in their schools.

We’ll explore questions such as: Should Citizenship lead the way? Is there a need for whole-school policies to support this work? What is the role of a school EDI lead? These questions and more will be explored in the session, remembering the core message that racial equity is a foundation of our students’ rights in school.

You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions of the expertsat the event or, if preferred, to share these in advance. We look forward to seeing you at this session.

Amit Puni

Senior Lecturer, Kingston University

Amit is a Senior Lecturer at Kingston University, where he work across the faculty of Health, Science, Social Care and Education (HSSCE). He lectures from undergraduate all the way through to doctoral level, and leads the Working with Children & Young People: Social Pedagogy BA (Hons) course.

In his previous role, he successfully established and led the Citizenship with Social Science PGCE route. His work in educational environments stretches over 20 years, both internationally and within the local landscape of London.

Beyond this, Amit is the national Country Lead for England in the Five Nations Citizenship and Value Education Network. He is an Adviser on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion to the subject Association for Citizenship Teachers (ACT). Additionally, he contributes his expertise in his role as a School Governor in Kingston, a role that allows his to directly impact the local community. In this role, he has transformed and developed the Racial Justice Policy, lead staff CPD, and revamped procedures to ensure equity for students. In addition, Amit is a member of the European Race Equity forum.

Presently, Amit is in the final stages of a PhD, with a focus on understanding educational attainment patterns by deploying a Critical Race Theory lens. His academic interests encompass education and issues of social justice.

Michelle Codrington-Rogers

Michelle Codrington-Rogers became the first Black National President of the NASUWT- The Teachers Union in April 2020 and then Honorary Treasurer in April 2022.
Her term as a national Officer for the NASUWT was completed April 2024.

Michelle is a qualified Citizenship teacher, qualifying with a PGCE in Citizenship from the University of Leicester in 2005. She currently teaches at a large state secondary school in Oxfordshire. An advocate for Citizenship education, Michelle supports the work of educational organisations such as the Association of Citizenship Teachers and Black Curriculum.

She has spoken on equality, Black representation and citizenship teaching to UNESCO, Education International, ETUCE and The TUC among many others. Michelle has also
worked outside unions linked to Anti-racism, equality and decolonisation with Oxford University, York University, UCL and IOE.

Currently, she holds the chair of the TUC Black Women and Sexual Harassment Working Group and chair of trustees of TUC Aid. Michelle is currently on sabbatical working on her
MSc in Education – Digital and Social Change at Oxford University.
