Media Matters: Empowering teachers in Media and Information Literacy

ACT's Media Matters course will equip you with knowledge & practical ideas so that you can help your own students navigate today’s complex media world

Welcome to Media Matters, a comprehensive course designed to equip educators with the essential knowledge and skills needed to confidently teach media and information literacy. Together with a team of expert teachers, we have designed this introductory course with the aim of sharing what we’ve learnt from teaching media and information literacy over the years to equip you with knowledge and practical ideas that you can use to help your own students navigate today’s complex media world.

In the first half of the course, you’ll deepen your own understanding of media landscapes, critical analysis, and the importance of information literacy in today’s digital age. You’ll emerge fully prepared to navigate and evaluate media with confidence.

The second half of the course, coming soon, will shift focus to pedagogy. It will provide practical strategies, lesson ideas, and creative approaches to help you effectively develop your students’ media and information literacy skills in the classroom. Media Matters is your pathway to becoming a leader in media literacy education.

While we approach the topic from a Citizenship perspective as subject specialists, the information and ideas presented are valuable for anyone who incorporates media resources into their teaching.
