Virtual Staffroom: Navigating the aftermath of summer violence
Join us for a discussion with experts Helen Blachford, Zoe Baker, and ACT ambassadors on navigating the aftermath of summer violence.
Join us for a valuable discussion with expert teacher Helen Blachford, ACT’s Head of Education Zoe Baker, and other ACT ambassadors on how to navigate the aftermath of this summer’s violence.
About this event:
Our Media Literacy expert and Chair of the ACT Council, Helen Blachford, will share her insights on addressing misinformation related to the causes of this summer’s violence, as well as the implications of recent sentencing for those who have incited or participated in violence online.
We will also examine how the Citizenship curriculum can help students understand the role of the criminal justice system, particularly in light of the recent sentencing of individuals involved in violent disorder, including children as young as 13.
Additionally, the session will cover the connections between protests and protest law, provide guidance on teaching controversial and sensitive topics, and explore how active citizenship has enabled communities to heal and rebuild following the violence.
Our Virtual Staffroom sessions are designed to be relaxed and welcoming. You can drop in and out, ask questions, and feel like a part of a supportive, larger community of Citizenship educators. We look forward to seeing you there!
