Why should I teach about fraud and financial crime? Developing new knowledge in Citizenship

About this event

In this session we will explore the importance of students understanding the current increasing threat of fraud and financial crime, and how this allows us to explore the core elements of the Citizenship and RHSE curriculum. Additionally this session will be useful when teaching safeguarding awareness.

This interactive session will explore the resources developed by ACT in collaboration with the Home Office and the National Crime Agency. This is the first session of a four part series; participants who attend all four sessions will receive a certificate from ACT and the Home Office awarding national recognition for Fraud and Financial Crime Education Teaching.

Attending any single session will still be of great benefit and all participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

CPD strand – Politics, Elections and Society

Building upon the CPD offering in the previous year and feedback from our members, we have introduced a new strand entitled ‘Politics, Elections and Society’ which provides broader subject knowledge enhancement and incorporates a range of elements from previous CPD strands.

Zoe Baker

Head of Learning Resources

Zoe leads on the development and delivery of professional learning, working with a range of agencies and ACT regional Teaching Ambassadors. She ensures that our teachers have a wealth of material to draw on to support their roles in school. Zoe’s qualifications include a History and Social Science BA hons, PGCE, and Fellowship of Holocaust Education. She also works on the ITT programme at Canterbury Christ Church University, and she has been a teacher in Kent for over 20 years, as well as an ACT teaching advisor. Zoe is also a freelance educator at the Holocaust Educational Trust, working on the Lessons From Auschwitz Project and accompanying survivors into schools to deliver their testimony.

Craig Wright

Vice Principal, Outwood Academy Redcar

Craig is currently a Vice Principal in an academy in Middlesbrough which is part of one of the highest-performing multi-academy trusts in England. He has whole school responsibility for SEND, Safeguarding, Behaviour and Attendance (Deep Support).

Craig passionately believes that all students can benefit and succeed when given the right opportunities.

During his career, he has engaged in a variety of cross-cultural projects to enable students to fully engage in active global citizenship. Acting as the subject leader for RE (maternity cover), he has been responsible for driving achievement, long term planning and financial management of a department budget.

Craig has extensive experience in examining having acted as an examiner for AQA and Edexcel, and was recently appointed as an Assessment Writer for AQA, part of the team responsible for writing and reviewing exam materials for GCSE.
