GCSE Citizenship Studies 2020 and latest from Ofqual
Congratulations to all the schools and pupils for their 2020 GCSE Citizenship Studies results.
2020 GCSE Citizenship Studies
GCSE exam results are out today (20 August) and following a change in policy are based on teacher assessments (centre assessed grades). Almost 22,000 students achieved the GCSE in Citizenship Studies this summer an 11% increase on last year. This is the third consequtive increase in candidate numbers for the subject.
We want to pay tribute today to the hard work of teachers and pupils in what has been an exceptionally challenging year. We know many of you have spent considerable time undertaking assessments and providing support to students and their families and this has been a very difficult summer for all those involved.
Forecasts indicated that Citizenship Studies will see significant increases in candidate numbers this year, however it is likely that there will be a delay to results tables because of the circumstances around the grades awarded this year.
ACT will be providing further support to those teaching the GCSE Citizenship Studies beginning next week with a webinar discussing arrangements for the coming academic year including active citizenship. Further information on this and our planned GCSE masterclasses for each of the exam boards AQA, Edexcel and OCR will be published on our events page.
Notes:
GCSE Citizenship Studies has existed since 2001 initial as a short course (equivalent to half a full GCSE). The number of candidates taking the qualification peaked in 2009 when 94,000 students achieved the qualification.
GCSE qualifications were reformed in 2014 and 2015.
2018 was the first year in which only full course GCSE Citizenship Studies was available. The short course qualification was phased out following qualification reforms.
GCSE Citizenship Studies is offered by AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
