Funding Available for Active Citizenship
Giving Nation, a programme of the Citizenship Foundation, is a cross-curricular programme designed to get secondary schools and alternative education settings involved in active citizenship.
Through structured class-based learning the Giving Nation programme supports every young person to make a positive difference in the world. As a result we hope that the young people can use their skills in advocacy, campaigning, fundraising and project management to become life-long givers as they discover their political influence.
Giving Nation provides comprehensive, high-quality teaching and learning resources and an online microsite for each class to profile their giving stories with their chosen charity. What’s more they also provide sustainable, seed capital which can be loaned to students to get their social enterprises off the ground.
Giving Nation is a genuine active-learning programme that supports the delivery of SMSC while developing students' soft and hard skill development.
"Students were really keen to get involved (because it was personal to them). It gave students that wouldn't normally get involved in charity work the chance to see that everyone can make a difference." – Vikki Horsley, Humanities Faculty Leader
For 10 years Giving Nation has been working with over 250,000 young people in over 600 secondary schools to empower them to tackle issues that they feel passionately about in their local, national and international communities.
Schools have collectively donated over 1 million volunteer hours and raised in excess of £850,000 for their charities or good causes in the past five years.
