These resources have been developed by ACT to support the teaching of media literacy through citizenship.

1: Teaching Media Literacy - Covid-19

Put together by experienced secondary citizenship teachers, this first learning activity is designed for use with pupils in key stages 3 and 4. Pupils are introduced to basic media literacy concepts and terms and encouraged to develop their knowledge, source analysis and critical thinking in relation to the different types of information they encounter.

Teaching Democracy - compulsory voting?

The resources comes with ready to use pupil resource sheets, to introduce pupils to some of the key characteristics of democracy using a balloon debate activity. It can be adapted for use with key stage 3 and 4 pupils who are just begining to learn about the concept of democracy or for those who have been studying democracy as a way to check understanding of the key ideas.

As students in key stage 3 and key stage 4 begin to consider their future career progression, they may not realise the benefits that volunteer work can add. As part of the citizenship curriculum it is also a valuable contribution to society. Volunteering opportunities can cover a great many sectors - this citizenship module concentrates on volunteering in conservation.

This volunteering module offers four lesson plans which are ideal for key stage 4 citizenship lessons.
