Assessing Citizenship - Example assessment activities for key stage 3

The booklet 'Assessing Citizenship' was developed with teachers by the former organisation the QCA to support effective assessment practice in Citizenship. The booklet was produced in 2006 before level descriptions were created for the subject.

The materials aim to:

  • demonstrate a range of practical assessment approaches that can be used as an integral part of citizenship teaching and learning
  • indicate progression and the standards required for pupils
  • provide evidence of attainment for end of key stage assessments
  • show how pupils can be involved in the assessment process.

Each of the four examples is based on practice in schools and samples of the pupil's work are provided.

Success criteria for each assessment activity highlight the expectations of pupils and are designed to help teachers make judgements about progress and attainment.
