'First Give Programme' for social action published by First Give
'First Give Programme', published by First Give, has been awarded the ACT Quality Mark for Citizenship Teaching Resources.
The First Give resources have been prepared to enable students to take part in engaging social action projects to raise funds for a chosen charity, while also raising awareness of the social issues affecting communities and society. The resource support aspects of the Citizenship curriculum and can be used to help students prepare for GCSE Citizenship action projects.
An independent panel has reviewed the resource against the ACT quality principles for effective citizenship education. The panel said,
“These comprehensive and attractive resources can be used to support Citizenship at key stages 3 and 4 and can provide a structured approach to the active citizenship project required for the GCSE Citizenship Studies qualification."
The First Give resources could be used by teachers to compliment and support their own Citizenship lessons exploring a range of social issues facing communities and society, as well as learning about the role of different charities in tackling inequality, injustice and in supporting a healthy democratic society.
The 'First Give Programme' comprises eight lessons, three videos and student workbooks. The resources can be downloaded from the First Give website where further details of the programme and how it works can also be found.
