How are our leaders elected?
This lesson is part 3 of a sequence of 6 lessons addressing the key enquiry: Who runs the United Kingdom?
To understand how the UK’s democracy works, students will learn what general and local elections are. They will also have the opportunity to explore the first-past-the-post voting system, and will take part in an election within the classroom.
Students will work towards answering the following questions:
- How are MPs elected?
- How are local councillors elected?
- How does first-past-the-post work?
