Local government, elections and voting key stage 3 lessons

These lessons are designed to support key requirements of the National Curriculum for Citizenship in relation to Government, elections and voting. Developed by ACT Ambassador and Citizenship teacher, Ben Miskell. The lesson are pitched for key stage 3 but are adaptable for other key stages.

Lesson 1 How is local government different to national government?

This lesson helps pupils explore how local democracy works, what government does and  what councils do.

Lesson 2 How do local elections work?

This lesson introduces the basics of how elections work, how the voting system works and what political parties are.
