Parallel Elections Project: Week 2

Key stage 3 (ages 11-14) • Politics, Parliament & Government • Assemblies & fact sheets

Understanding and communicating the issues

Week 2:

In week 2, the focus is on getting to grips with what is being discussed, how political parties are using campaigns to communicate with the electorate and understanding what manifestos are. Additionally, pupils running parallel elections will continue to work in teams, encourage the electorate (pupils) to register to vote and get informed about what each party is saying they will do if they win the election.  Toolkits for pupils working in teams are provided.

Lesson 1:

Lesson 1 introduces pupils to some of the key issues that citizens are concerned about and considering as they think about who to vote for in the general election. They examine what the main parties say about key issues.

Lesson 2:

Lesson 2 focuses on the campaigns including how parities are using communication strategies with the electorate to inform them of their manifesto policies and plans and persuade them to vote.
