Planning action – what change do we want to see?
This lesson is part 7 of a sequence of 11 lessons addressing the key enquiry: How can I be a changemaker in my local community?
This lesson focuses on fostering critical thinking and planning skills for active citizenship, guiding students to understand how to bring about societal change through targeted actions. Students begin by analysing case studies of successful campaigns, identifying their goals and strategies, and presenting their findings to peers. They then reflect on their chosen social issues, articulating what they aim to achieve and who they should target for maximum impact. Through group discussions, presentations, and guided questioning, students evaluate the feasibility and potential success of their plans. The session concludes with reflective writing and a takeaway task to explore various methods for effecting change.
Students will work towards answering the following learning questions:
- How do I decide what I want to achieve with my action?
- How have others brought about change in society?
- How do I decide who to target with my action?
