Sutainability and Climate Education through Citizenship concepts
Key stage 3 (ages 11-14) • Sustainability • Curriculum planning
Citizenship is one of the key subjects for teaching sustainability and climate education in the National Curriculum. This framework was developed with teachers to identify how different key concepts in Citizenship can be developed when teaching about sustainablity, climate and the environment. For example, the roles of government, law makers, non-governmental organisations and rights defenders in working to address the challenges of climate change. Alongside this, the framework highlights the way active citizenship can be used to engage students with nature and climate change and address climate justice.
Schools can use this when working to develop their school approach to sustainablity and climate education and their Climate Action Plans.
