What do other countries do to punish lawbreakers?

This lesson is part 5 of a sequence of six lessons exploring the enquiry: Does our legal system protect citizens’ rights?

The lesson explores approaches to punishment in England and uses case studies from the Netherlands and Norway to explore other approaches.

Students will work towards answering the following questions:

  1. Why do we punish lawbreakers?
  2. What punishments do we use in the UK?
  3. What other punishments or approaches can be used?
