What is the Rule of Law?

This lesson is part 2 of a sequence of 6 lessons addressing the key enquiry: How do laws affect us?

In this lesson, students scrutinise the concept of the Rule of Law and its significance in demonstrating justice in society. They will understand principles of fairness, accountability and equal treatment under the law, and how it creates stability and justice and secures protection of rights within society. Through analysis of the Lady of Justice statue, a video clip and real-life situations, students will understand how the Rule of Law impacts their own lives.

Students will work towards answering the following questions:
  1. What is the Rule of Law?
  2. Why is the Rule of Law important in society?
  3. How does the Rule of Law impact your life?
