Misconceptions and extremism

Scott Amott, Head of Citizenship and PFL, led work on The ACT Building Resilience Project at Heanor Gate Science College in Derbyshire.

This project focused on critical thinking and enquiry skills through five Citizenship lessons with Year 7 classes. Pupils explored the concept of extremism and right wing political ideologies through critical engagement with case studies and the role played by the media and community. They also considered the responsible actions they might take in light of their investigations.

A teaching framework for exploring and understanding criminal sentencing in England and Wales published by Sentencing Council for England and Wales has been awarded the ACT Quality Mark for Citizenship Teaching Resources.
