GCSE Mock Assessment Moderation

Join ACT Ambassadors and experienced teachers to moderate assessments and feel confident in your marking

About this event

Having a sound understanding of the process of assessment is vital to supporting your students through their GCSE Citizenship Studies qualification. However, this can be a challenge when you are in a small or one-person department. This collaborative event is designed to increase confidence in your use of marks schemes.

Participants will join our ACT ambassadors, Head of Education & Professional Development and Head of Resources, to work together in applying marks schemes to students’ work.

Participants should be ready to share anonymised examples of answers they would like to be reviewed along with the relevant marks scheme. Please note, this session is seen as a support activity and does not replace any training provided by a particular examination board for their specification.

Who is it for?

Any teacher who would like to practise using marks schemes and apply them to students’ work.

Why attend?

By attending this event participants will:

  • Increase their confidence with using marks schemes
  • Gain an opportunity to network with colleagues in a similar situation to them
  • Have a chance to ask questions of experienced teachers who have marked GCSE papers previously

Additional information

To gain the most from this session it is beneficial to bring some sample papers with you.

CPD strand – GCSE Network

Building on our current strong network of GCSE teachers, we have developed a bespoke strand for members who teach GCSE Citizenship Studies. The focus of sessions will include improving outcomes for the Citizenship Investigation (active citizenship), examination technique, and opportunities for teachers to support each other with moderation of assessments.
