Primary Citizenship Programme of Study

Key stage 1 (ages 5-7) • New to Citizenship • Curriculum planning

The Programme of Study for Citizenship at key stage 1 and 2 describes what teaching should address for pupils. Citizenship should be taught as part of a broad and balanced curriculum and to ensure pupils are ready for key stage when Citizenship becomes a statutory National Curriculum subject.

The Department for Education expect all primary schools to teach Citizenship that addresses this Programme of Study.
