This week saw the new AQA GCSE in Citizenship Studies achieve accreditation by Ofqual, the Exams Regulator. This means that all three full course GCSE qualifications in Citizenship Studies are now ready for use in schools.
The new GSCEs which are available for first teaching this year and for first examination from 2018 are different to those currently in use in a number of ways:
The GCSE results published yesterday (20 August 2015) confirmed the full course Citizenship Studies has continued to show positive growth in 2015 with 21,628 students achieving the qualification this summer, a 10% increase on 2014. The total number of candidates taking the full and short courses has reduced this summer to 33,192 as schools continue to move away from the short course which no longer counts towards the DFE school performance table measures.
