'Welcome to Your Vote' week (24-29 January)
Electoral Commission launches campaign to boost young people's democratic engagement.
Welcome to Your Vote campaign launches with a week-long event
24 – 30 January 2022
The Electoral Commission is hosting the first annual UK-wide Welcome to Your Vote week, running 24-30 January 2022. It’s ambition is to help young people feel more confident, and more prepared to head to a polling station when they are eligible.
Schools and youth groups can get involved with the week by using the Electoral Commission’s new, impartial resources to share information about democracy and voting with young people, and to encourage them to register to vote.
The new political literacy resources for educators will be launched to coincide with the week and will include lesson plans, and a series of short activities, which are curriculum-linked and tailored to each area of the UK.
The resources, and Welcome to Your Vote week, are designed to be used both in and out of election periods. So, even if you don’t have elections in your area this May, you can still get involved and start the conversation about democracy and voting.
Teachers and educators can sign up for updates from the Electoral Commission’s learning team.
